Special Report by VESTI on Russia 1: Construction of the Largest Sports Facility in Magadan Using PROSTOR Technologies
The “Prezidentsky” Sports Complex in Magadan is nearing completion, with the ice rink already installed and marked.
This is the largest sports facility in the region, covering nearly 20,000 square meters and featuring multiple sports halls and swimming pools, all soon ready to welcome athletes.
Advanced Ice Technology
The rink consists of five layers of ice, reinforced with a mesh for durability and smoothness. Beneath the surface, refrigeration equipment maintains a stable sub-zero temperature. Workers are applying special markings and decals, also reinforced with mesh for longevity. The coat of arms of the Magadan region is displayed at the center of the arena. The final step involves manually applying water to secure the layers.
Oleg Savin, Installation Mechanic:
“We do it by hand to ensure it holds properly and doesn’t float up. If we used high-pressure water, it would rise.”
The ice arena is the pride of the “Prezidentsky” Sports Complex, built to Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) standards.
Final Construction Stage
A 300-seat spectator tribune is now being installed, with plastic seats already delivered to Magadan. This will be the final stage of construction.
The sports complex was built in just two years despite challenges such as material transportation (since everything is imported), extreme cold delaying concrete work, and financial constraints. The federal Ministry of Sports is expected to provide the remaining funding soon.
Artem Chernyshov, Director of the Socially Significant Development Directorate of Magadan Region:
“The contractor is currently working with its own funds. Once the financing arrives, progress will accelerate. The main tasks left are finishing work, mostly painting. The ice rink is being finalized, and the decals have arrived. The primary construction work is essentially completed.”
Grand Opening Coming Soon
The “Prezidentsky” Sports Complex will soon be introduced to Magadan’s athletes. The ice arena will be the first to open, welcoming hockey players, followed by the swimming pools, gymnastics halls, northern all-around training areas, mini-football, and volleyball courts.
